摘要：
This paper studies the effect of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) on urban air pollution in China. The number of government purchase subsidies for BEVs is used as an instrumental variable. The empirical results suggest that a ten percent increase in the cumulative number of registered BEVs on average can decrease urban air pollution by one percent. However, BEVs are also found to redistribute air pollution, as more registered BEVs can cause more pollution in areas where coal power plants are located. This paper’s findings provide references for policies on the electric vehicle industry and urban air pollution.

逄金栋，武汉大学经济与管理公司经济系特聘副研究员。本科、硕士毕业于西安交通大学，博士毕业于Syracuse University经济系。主要研究领域为城市、区域、以及房地产经济学。主持国家自然科学基金青年及面上项目，研究成果发表Journal of Urban Economics, Canadian Journal of Economics, Regional Science and Urban Economics, Journal of Applied Econometrics, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics等知名国际期刊。
